Gate 1 check

How to film a good test clip
  • Stand the phone behind the golfer on the target line, about hip height, held still on a tripod or propped up.
  • Keep the whole body and the club in frame from address to finish.
  • Use daylight or bright indoor light and a plain background.
  • Slow motion at 120 or 240 frames per second helps if the phone offers it. The test samples frames, so any clip works.
  • Trim to one swing. Shorter clips test faster.
How the verdict is decided

The page finds the frame where the hands move fastest and adds 0.12 seconds (the hands peak just before the club meets the ball) to estimate impact. It then checks how clearly the wrists were tracked within 0.15 seconds either side.

  • Pass: body found in at least 95% of frames, wrist visibility around impact at 60% or better, and no lost frames in that window.
  • Borderline: body found in at least 85% of frames and wrist visibility around impact at 40% or better.
  • Not yet: anything below that.

These are starting values for the Gate 1 decision, not a golf standard. If the fastest-hands frame looks wrong, step through the frames yourself.
